LIGHTING FOR NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY | FINDING THE BUTTERFLY SHADOW

When we delve into the topic of lighting for newborn photography, you will find that the instruction is always to “find the butterfly”. When I was starting out, for the longest time, I had no idea what that meant! Butterfly? What butterfly?

If you’ve been struggling with the same question, I hope today’s video will show you exactly what this butterfly is that everyone is talking about (spoiler: it’s just a shadow!), and how to achieve that shadow when you have a newborn in studio, regardless of whether you are using studio or natural light.

This is an important lesson to learn, and is a great method to determine whether your lighting setup for newborn photography is correctly placed.
